New Mexico Teen– We are proud to be licensed and bonded in the state of NM to offer Correspondence Driver’s Ed (Approval List).
The state of NM TSD allows students under the age of 18 to choose from three different options for Driver’s Education:
37 hour course: 30 hours of classroom instruction and 7 hours of behind the wheel with a TSD licensed instructor. After the 9th hour of classroom instruction the student receives a referral card which will allow them to obtain their Learner’s Permit after successful completion of the MVD computerized exam. As they hold the Learner’s Permit for 6 months they will work on their 50 hour Graduated Driver’s License (GDL) driving log with their parents. After 6 months of successful completion of the log and the course they will be able to obtain their provisional.
56 hour course through HS: 56 hour classroom instruction provided by a TSD licensed HS instructor. After completion of 9 hours of instruction they are able to obtain their Learner’s Permit by successfully passing the MVD computerized exam. As they hold the Learner’s Permit for 6 months they will work on their 50 hour GDL driving log with their parents. After 6 months of successful completion of the log they will be able to obtain their provisional.
56 hour Correspondence School: 56 hour home-school program approved by the TSD for students that can not take the 37 hour course or 56 hour HS course. Students/Parents have to complete the application (provided below) with their parents and submit the application for approval with a letter from the school verifying that they are involved in sports/extra-curricular activities etc. or provide verification of home-school status. After 9 hours (Unit 1) students are issued a Referral Card and GDL brochure to obtain their Learner’s Permit at the local MVD office, after successful completion of the MVD computerized exam. As they hold the Learner’s Permit for 6 months they will work on their 50 hour GDL driving log with their parents. After 6 months of successful completion of the log they will be able to obtain their provisional license through the GDL program.
